Supporting MDS Research - Volunteering at the Move for MDS 5K in Chicago!

The MDS Foundation is an organization dedicated to supporting those who are affected by Myelodysplastic Syndrome through increasing awareness and raising money for research. The event that I was at was a fundraiser and to help the runners in the 5k, I helped set up the different booths for runners, run the tables with food and drinks by handing them out, and directing any runners who needed assistance. The best part of this experience was cheering everyone on, people of all ages, as they crossed the finish line. From this event alone, more than $74,000 was raised for funding research for MDS.

Myelodysplastic Syndrome is a bone marrow disorder that results in a lack of healthy blood cells that are produced by the bone marrow. A lack of concrete knowledge of the causes and cures for MDS and a high occurrence rate emphasizes how research for this disease is of the utmost importance.
